Job Summary: The Systems Student Assistant is responsible for providing support computer labs and other technology initiatives for the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences. This position assists with computer lab maintenance tasks including software installation and configuration, hardware diagnosing and repair, and erasing machines as they are returned for refurbishment, buyback, or surplus.


Additional Department Summary: This position also assists with the Academic Continuity Initiative, which provides eligible Barefield College of Arts and Sciences Faculty and Staff with an iPad. This position assists with helping setup and support these devices via email, phone, video conferencing, and in person appointments. This position provides applicants with the opportunity to learn remote management tools such as PDQ Deploy, PDQ Inventory, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), JAMF, Apple School Manager, and Global Service Exchange (GSX) for managing Windows and Apple devices.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Current University of Alabama undergraduate student. Must have and maintain a minimum of 2.25 cumulative GPA or higher to be considered.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Enrollment Requirements: Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
