Job Summary
The Neuromechanics & Applied Locomotion Laboratory at the University of Utah is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work across multiple funded research studies at the intersection of balance control, wearable sensors, physical therapy rehabilitation, and mild traumatic brain injuries (i.e., concussions). The proposed project will include working with wearable sensors for continuous monitoring of mobility, neuromechanical assessments of balance during standing and walking, and physical therapy interventions to improve balance after concussions. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate on several other studies in the Neuromechanics & Applied Locomotion Laboratory spanning balance, locomotor control, and rehabilitation. The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Peter Fino, faculty in the Department of Health & Kinesiology. The postdoctoral fellow will also work in close collaboration with other postdoctoral fellows, research staff, graduate students, and faculty across the University of Utah and collaborating institutions such as Oregon Health & Science University.
Requirements:
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline, such as kinesiology, biomechanics, engineering, or rehabilitation science

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the following preferred qualities:
  • Expertise in human balance control during standing and walking, especially in response to perturbations
  • Expertise using wearable inertial measurement units for assessing balance and mobility
  • Experience conducting human subject research in clinical populations with impaired neuromuscular control, especially those with acute or chronic concussion
  • Programming experience (MATLAB, Python, R)
  • Experience using biomechanical instrumentation including instrumented treadmills, motion capture, electromyography
  • A track record of journal publications and/or demonstrated interest in neural control of movement, locomotion, postural control, biomechanics, concussions, rehabilitation, and / or wearable sensors,
  • Knowledge and ability to independently implement statistical analyses
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to excel in both team and individual environments
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

The position will stay open until filled.
The funding for this position is available for 2 years, and may be renewed for additional years pending the availability of funding. Salary will be commensurate with experience and the NIH post-doctoral salary scale.
