Job Summary
The Department of Neuroscience and the Center for Advanced Pain Studies at UT Dallas invite applications for a Laboratory Technician to join the Yousuf Lab. This position will support NIH‑funded research focused on understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic pain and developing potential treatments using preclinical models.
The Laboratory Technician will work extensively with rodent models, including conducting behavioral assays, performing surgeries, and completing tissue dissections. The role also involves cell culture work, with an emphasis on generating and maintaining primary cultures from rodent and human dorsal root ganglia.
Additional responsibilities include performing standard molecular biology techniques such as Western blotting, PCR, immunohistochemistry, and/or microscopy. Experience with bioinformatics or computational tools applied to biological research is not required but is highly desirable.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate degree with a minimum of two years hands on experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge of molecular biology methods, including Western blotting, PCR, and nucleic acid purification, as well as cell biology techniques such as cell culture and microscopy
  • Strong motivation to learn, adapt, and master new methods and experimental techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and effectively with staff at all levels
  • Ability to accurately document, analyze, and clearly report experimental results
  • High level of persistence, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting technical challenges
