Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of the Faculty Center, this position supports faculty and graduate teaching assistants in realizing their potential as educators, researchers, leaders, and scholars committed to excellence. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative, innovative team as we transition from the Center for Teaching Excellence to a Faculty Center with a broader mission for faculty support including research, scholarship, leadership, and teaching. This position will build on existing programs while introducing new initiatives.
This position is open to internally active employees of Georgia Southern University.
Responsibilities
- Train and support faculty in the technical and pedagogical skills necessary to deliver quality face-to-face, online, blended, flipped and Hybrid courses and learning content
- Assist faculty in adaptation of instructional materials from one course format to another (face to face, flipped, blended, Hybrid, or online)
- Review courses to ensure compliance with nationally-recognized higher education course design standards, web accessibility guidelines and copyright laws
- Consult with degree program faculty teams to design, develop, and implement courses and related external learning technology tools for online degree programs
- Develop multimedia tutorials and instructional materials for faculty
- Coordinate media/video/audio with faculty to design, develop, and teach media-rich, highly interactive courses that provide a student-centered, authentic learning experience
- Guide faculty in creative and effective use of available campus technologies
- Advance the usage and best practices of the University's Learning Management System (LMS)
- Serve as a consultant to faculty teams developing courses/programs
- Collaborate with colleagues to design, deliver and assess tailored workshops for faculty including but not limited to, technology trainings, pedagogical trainings, and course design institutes
- Support faculty development initiatives by working with colleagues and other campus units to develop, implement, and coordinate projects and services to address faculty needs
- Facilitate consultations, observations, and student feedback for all course modalities
- Support the use of high impact education practices (HIPs) across all course modalities
- Remain current on best practices in teaching and learning and faculty development

- Master's degree

- Familiarity with research on effective teaching strategies and classroom implementation.
Required Experience
- Experience teaching in higher education.
- Experience developing and leading faculty training initiatives.
- Experience working independently as well as cooperatively with colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with research and implementation of effective teaching strategies for technology rich learning environments
Preferred Experience
- Experience supporting the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
- Experience supporting Graduate student programming
- Experience with a wide variety of educational technologies and their implementation in face-to-face, flipped, online and blended course modalities. (G-Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Perusall, Nearpod, Articulate, Camtasia, Lightboard)
- Experience conducting course reviews/classroom observations.
- Experience with Open Education Resources (OER) and Creative Commons Licensing.
- Experience designing mentoring programs and career-stage programming.
- Experience designing support for faculty research, scholarship and leadership development
Proposed Salary
$61,500
This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
