Summary:
The Office Assistant (OA) is a student staff member in Housing & Residence Life and part of the University’s Division of Student Affairs. The OA serves a critical role in providing high-level customer service, administrative support, and assistance with daily office operations. This position helps ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for students, families, and campus partners.
Office Assistants report to the Housing Assignments team and work closely with professional and student staff members across Housing & Residence Life.
Essential Functions:
Serve as the first point of contact for students, families, and guests at the Housing & Residence Life office.
Provide assistance via phone, email, live chat, and in-person interactions.
Answer questions and provide accurate information about housing policies, procedures, and campus resources.
Assist with special projects, including organizing documents, reviewing HRL communication materials, and managing office supplies.
Maintain a working knowledge of Housing & Residence Life processes, including housing assignments and billing.
Monitor and respond to inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Assist with processing paperwork, updating student records, and managing confidential information.
Support office events, meetings, and training sessions as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Part-time.
10 - 20 hours per week.
Salary Range:
$17.95 per hour.
Required Education and Experience:
Enrolled as a student at American University for the Fall 2026 semester.
Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.25 or higher.
Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Exhibit professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with potential non-traditional hours.
This is a Fall and Spring semester position with the opportunity to continue into the summer session.
