The McNair Scholars Program within the Student Access and Success (SAS) department is currently seeking a Graduate Student Program Writing Assistant to join their team of professionals.
Application Preparation Support :
- Provide one-on-one or small group sessions to review and offer feedback on PhD application materials
- Assist students in developing strong narratives for personal and research statements
- Offer guidance on CV formatting and presentation for academic audiences
- Support students in preparing writing samples or statements of purpose
Program & Workshop Support:
- Collaborate with staff to develop and/or facilitate workshops on topics such as:
- Finding the right PhD program
- Communicating with faculty
- Navigating funding opportunities
- Writing personal and research statements
- Help track student progress through application timelines and milestones
Resource Development & Communication:
- Help maintain a repository of application resources (templates, guides, samples)
- Curate and share opportunities for undergraduate research, summer research programs, and PhD prep programs
- Assist in creating content for newsletters, email campaigns, and social media related to graduate school prep
- Administrative Support:
- Maintain records of student appointments and progress
- Assist in coordinating events, student communications, and outreach efforts
- Provide general support for undergraduate academic success initiatives as needed
- Completed Bachelor's degree
Student Assistant
- Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
- During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
- Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
