Job Description


Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
The Athletic Director is responsible for the following:
Compliance Management: Development, implementation, and monitoring of all components necessary to comply with the recruitment, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) compliance standard, and Title IX requirements as pertains to equity in collegiate sports, for all current and future sports to include, but not limited to baseball, softball, men and women soccer, and eSports teams.
Budget and procurement management: Develop, maintain, administer and monitor an annual budget for all athletics, accounting for expenses from all sources of funding. Ensure that all athletics related procurement is approved and implemented in accordance with the procedures appropriate to the source of funding. Ensure that coaches have knowledge, understanding, and proper execution of travel and procurement guidelines for coaches and students for away games and related program events.
Leadership and supervision: Be the athletic programs’ greatest advocate, developing and communicating a clear vision and plan for growth and sustainability of the program. Supervise coaches and other athletic staff. Provide support for, and hold athletic coaches accountable to, targets for recruitment and fundraising for their respective teams.
Fundraising: In collaboration with Institutional Advancement and the coaches, identify opportunities for fundraising and ensure that each sport (coaches and athletes) plans and implements at least one fundraising activity/event per year in order to support the respective budget.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Athletic Administration, Education, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience in athletic administration, coaching, or intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of athletic association rules and compliance, such as NJCAA, conference, and institutional policies · Supervisory experience es and support personnel.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete success, including academic achievement, retention, and graduation.
  • Experience managing athletic budgets, scheduling, and operational logistics.
  • Knowledge of Title IX, equity, and student conduct requirements as they relate to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Additional Considerations
  • Master’s degree in sports administration, higher education, educational leadership or a related field.
  • Experience as an athletic director or associate/assistant athletic director.
  • Experience working with first-generation, under-represented or non-traditional student populations.
  • Fundraising, sponsorship, or grant-writing experience related to athletics.
  • Experience with athletic facilities management, capital planning, or event operations.
  • Demonstrated success in compliance oversight and reporting at the conference or national level.
  • Experience collaborating with academic affairs, student services, and enrollment management.
  • Knowledge of risk management, athletic training coordination, and student athlete wellness initiatives.
  • Experience promoting athletics through marketing, community engagement, and alumni relations.
