Description

The Persian Studies Program at Georgetown University invites applications for a three-year, full-time, non-tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor to begin August 2026.

The teaching load is 12 credits per semester, with teaching, testing, and advising responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate students. Additional duties include service to the Persian Studies Program, the ability to collaborate and team-teach, and participation in national and/or international organizations such as the American Association of Teachers of Persian (AATP), the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies (ASPS), and the Association for Iranian Studies (AIS).

Prior experience in teaching, course design, and curriculum development is highly desired, as is expertise in second language acquisition and Persian for professional purposes, especially visual arts, diplomacy, and the Persianate world. We are looking for candidates with specialization in Persian Language Pedagogy. The position requires native or near-native Persian, excellence in teaching, and the ability to teach language at all levels. Candidates with the ability to teach post-Advanced courses in Persian language are encouraged to apply.

Start Date: August 1st, 2026

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Persian Language and Culture, Persian Linguistics, or a related field is required prior to appointment start date. Candidates must show a strong promise of excellence in teaching. Near-native or native fluency in Persian is a must.

The projected salary range for this position is $59,750.46-$64,789.40. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
