Lecturer - Doctorate in Educational Psychology

The School of Psychology within Cardiff University wishes to appoint an enthusiastic Educational Psychologist to provide professional teaching and supervision to trainee educational psychologists and contribute to all aspects of the DEdPsy Programme delivery.
Candidates will:
- be fully qualified educational psychologists
- have a minimum of two years of experience of working as an educational psychologist
- be eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
- be registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) in the UK and
- currently be employed as a practising educational psychologist for a local authority within the UK
We would particularly welcome applications from psychologists working in Wales or with experience of working within the Welsh context.

The School of Psychology at Cardiff University is keen to continue to embed the educational psychology programme within the teaching and research environment in the School, ensuring that the programme team continue to positively influence the changing demands for the training and professional development of educational psychologists in Wales.
On the DEdPsy Programme teaching for trainees covers the areas of assessment; learning; social, emotional and mental health needs; research methods, the role of the EP, and working with organisations, systems and groups. The individual appointed will be responsible for providing teaching input to trainees on one or more of these areas on the DEdPsy and may include teaching within the wider School of Psychology, as well as making a teaching contribution to other aspects of the programme, organising and participating in varied curriculum events such as mini conferences and carrying out professional tutor duties, for example, supervising trainees and assessing their academic work. The individual appointed will also take on a role as an internal and external examiner for the programme.
Experienced educational psychologists that do not have any previous experience in a lecturer/tutor position are encouraged to apply as induction and mentoring of all professional responsibilities will be provided by co-programme directors and support provided to new starters by the programme team and programme administrator.
This is a part-time 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) position, fixed term until 30th June 2028 in the first instance. However, consideration will be given to candidates wishing to job share with a minimum commitment of 0.2 FTE. The position is available immediately.

Salary is paid in line with the Soulbury salary scale, with an expectation that the appointment will be between Soulbury Scale B points 4-7, £59,807 - £64,104 per annum, pro rata.

Main Function
Undertake a full teaching load, including the development, delivery and evaluation of
modules/programmes on the doctorate in educational psychology (DEdPSy) programme, within the post qualification provision within the School. To supervise students and to carry out administrative duties within the work area as required. To pursue excellence in teaching inspire others to do the same.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching
- Independently contribute to module and curriculum development and lead modules at postgraduate levels, inspiring students.
- Supervise the work of trainee educational psychologists on the DEdPsy programme
- Provide professional supervision for trainee educational psychologists whilst they are in university and engaged in fieldwork placements
- Supply pastoral care through both acting as a Personal Tutor and providing support and guidance to students, building and establishing trust
- Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship.
- Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
- Contribute to scholarship through interdisciplinary working with individuals and teams within, and external to, the wider university community.
- Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work.
- Engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile.
