Offer Description
The Department of Biomedicine is a joint effort between the University of Basel and the University Hospitals Basel. It unites basic and clinical scientists to advance our understanding of health and disease and to develop pioneering therapies benefiting the lives of patients in areas of unmet need.
With more than 70 research groups and 800 employees, the Department of Biomedicine is the largest department at the University. We are located in the heart of Basel at 6 different locations. Be part of our future!
We are establishing a new research laboratory led by Prof. Frauke von Versen, focusing on reproductive biology and women's health through interdisciplinary basic, translational, and clinical research. Our work investigates mechanisms underlying maternal and child outcomes after assisted reproductive technologies, with a particular focus on corpus luteum–derived endocrine signals in decidualization and endothelial function.
Additional research areas include the pathomechanisms of endometriosis using 3D and organoid models, as well as the links between reproductive disorders, reproductive aging, and premature vascular aging contributing to long-term cardiovascular risk.
We seek an experienced postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in reproductive biology and in vitro models, who is motivated to help build and shape a new research group.
Experience in 3D cell culture, microscopy techniques (e.g., fluorescence and confocal microscopy), as well as organoid-based disease modeling is an advantage. An interest for software-based analysis and ev. R-programming is welcome. We welcome applicants who are detail-oriented, enthusiastic about innovative research, and enjoy working in a collaborative environment.
- Lead and drive research projects in reproductive biology
- Independently plan, coordinate, and prioritize experimental work
- Perform and document experiments in compliance with regulatory standards
- Apply and optimize advanced laboratory techniques (e.g., flow cytometry, cell culture and 3D models, molecular analyses)
- Analyze and interpret experimental data; contribute to data presentation and publications
- Ensure timely project execution and adherence to quality standards
- PhD in life sciences or a related field
- Proven experience with in vitro models and assays
- Strong hands-on experience in cell culture and biochemical/molecular biology techniques (e.g., qPCR, RT-PCR, Western blot, ELISA)
- High level of responsibility, reliability, and attention to detail
- Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style
- Team-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research
- Excellent communication skills
The present infrastructure and extensive research equipment is state of the art.
The position will be initially for one year. The University of Basel offers modern employment conditions, family-friendly working models, attractive social benefits, and a wide range of discounts in catering, sports, and continuing education.
