Offer Description

SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se ), established in 2010, is a hub for life science research in Sweden and a collaboration between Swedish universities. SciLifeLab forms an internationally unique infrastructure and research community, bringing together groundbreaking life science technologies with data and AI expertise. Computational methods and artificial intelligence applied to large-scale molecular data are transforming the study of biological systems at all levels, from molecular structures and cellular processes to human health and global ecosystems.
The successful candidate will be working at the SciLifeLab Data Centre, a central unit within SciLifeLab with responsibility for IT- and data management issues, serving the SciLifeLab’s infrastructure platforms and other SciLifeLab-organised programs and activities, including the national research program for data-driven life sciences (DDLS). We have a national assignment and operate a range of services for life science data and e-infrastructure. We also work with issues about FAIR data and open science, and in close collaboration with major national and international partners.

Duties

SciLifeLab is now recruiting Data Engineers to integrate AI within SciLifeLab’s ecosystem of data and IT services for data-driven research. The role involves developing and maintaining systems and services for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of AI models created in research contexts. In addition, it involves developing and maintaining services allowing integration of large language models, foundation models focused on life science data, and narrow models in complex research workflows (for example, through AI agent architectures). The responsibilities include continuously monitoring global AI developments and assessing the relevance to the life science research community.
You will work in an agile team of data engineers, system developers, data stewards, and community managers building systems with the goal to empower researchers in life science to leverage the latest AI technologies. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about technology and eager to contribute to the future of life science research.
We offer a dynamic and inspiring work environment. We also value colleagiality, knowledge sharing between teams and developers, and provide opportunities for continuous learning and development.

Qualifications

Applicants must have relevant education, certificates, or work experience that demonstrate expertise for the role. In addition, the following are required:
- Documented several years of experience in training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models, including deep neural networks and relevant frameworks
- Documented several years of experience in systems development with Python and version control systems, e.g., Git
- Documented experience with using container and cloud technologies such as Docker, Helm, and Kubernetes
- Documented experience in large-scale data management, high-performance computing systems, GPU acceleration, and parallel file systems
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written

Additional qualifications

- Knowledge of or interest in biomedical research and infrastructure
- Experience working with Scrum or similar agile methodologies
- Experience with AI related frameworks and libraries such as LangChain/Haystack, etc.
- Diligence, initiative, and an interest in supporting Swedish research in artificial intelligence and data-driven life science

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability. The applicant must have excellent collaboration skills, initiative, and strong communication abilities, as well as demonstrated active competence progression relevant for this position. As a person, you should be flexible, creative, and service-oriented. You should also be quality-conscious as well as goal- and results-oriented.
