We are looking for a Researcher in crop production for dryland and supplementary irrigation systems to join the Sustainable field crops Program team, based in Lleida. This role is crucial for advancing agricultural science in areas with limited water resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting pioneering research to optimize sustainable crop production in dryland ecosystems, with adequate crop rotations, integrating efficient supplementary irrigation practices and other farming techniques

Tasks and Responsibilities:
- To conduct cutting-edge research to enhance crop yield and sustainability in dryland environments, incorporating supplementary irrigation strategies and novel farming practices.
- To develop and to evaluate new crop species, in rotation, intercropping and farming techniques suitable for these unique agricultural settings including minimal tillage.
- To gather, analyse, and interpret data related to dryland and supplementary irrigation agriculture, using this to guide research directions and methodologies.
- To use statistical and analytical tools, coupled with advanced crop modelling techniques so to evaluate the effectiveness and predict outcomes of various crop production strategies.
- To develop a strategic vision of the agricultural landscape for future generations.
- To focus on innovative water management practices, examining the impacts of various supplementary irrigation techniques on crop production and soil health.
- To develop and test methods for soil conservation and improvement in dryland settings.
- To work collaboratively with a network of researchers, industry experts, and local farmers to test and refine agricultural practices.
- To engage in interdisciplinary research projects that cross the boundaries of agronomy, hydrology, and environmental science.
- To contribute to the scientific production of the research and innovation activities of the Program.
- To share insights and recommendations with the agricultural community to promote sustainable practices in dryland and supplementary irrigation farming.

Skills/Qualifications
Required qualifications and experience
- PhD in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Proved research skills: experience on project proposal writing, literature review, experimental design and implementation, data analysis, scientific article writing particularly in dryland agriculture, supplementary irrigation systems, and crop modelling.
- A strong publication record and experience in scientific presentations.
- Excellent skills in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Proficiency in English.
Desirable requirements
- Proficiency in statistical analysis, experimental design, and crop simulation models.
- Catalan and Spanish are valued.
