Offer Description
The Universitat de Girona (UdG), part of the public university system of Catalonia, is recognized for its excellence in research and its commitment to social progress. It promotes science, technology, the humanities and the arts with a clear vocation for cooperation and social responsibility, contributing to the sustainable development of the region and to the critical and engaged education of new generations.
The Institute of Environmental Science of the University of Girona (IMA-UdG) is a university research institute devoted to basic and applied research on environmental studies and management.
With a strong interdisciplinary approach, the Institute addresses key challenges at local, regional, and international levels, including environmental protection and conservation, the promotion of sustainable economic activity, and the advancement of environmental, social, and territorial justice. IMA-UdG also acts as a permanent observatory of environmental conditions, dynamics, and trends in the Girona region.
Within academia, the Institute delivers doctoral, master’s, postgraduate, and specialised training in environmental sciences, preparing students for interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary professional practice. It also supports the continuous professional development of decision-makers involved in environmental and resource management.
In close interaction with society beyond the university, IMA-UdG promotes knowledge transfer, provides scientific support for environmental education, communication, and public awareness, and offers technical advice to facilitate informed environmental decision-making. When required, the Institute serves as a scientific–technical interface among públic authorities, the private sector, and citizens in environmental and territorial governance.
First Stage Researcher position has been opened.
The ideal candidate should hold a degree in engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, or a related field, with an interest in drinking water treatment, water reuse, and environmental risk assessment. Experience in laboratory or pilot-plant experimentation, water quality monitoring, sampling, and data analysis will be considered an asset. A good command of English is required.
