Researcher – Early-Stage Researcher (R1) at the Research Institute of High Mountain Biology, University of Žilina, www.vuvb.uniza.sk

Job description: Conducting research tasks of the Research Institute of High Mountain Biology in the field of global ecology of high mountain environments.

Main responsibilities: Collection of biotic and abiotic data, creation and validation of databases, ability to work with geographic information system (GIS) software, statistical data analysis, and preparation of publications as well as research projects.

Skills/Qualifications

• Completed Master’s degree (second level of higher education) in Ecological and Environmental Sciences or a related field obtained abroad
• Excellent command of English, both written and spoken; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage
• Experience in designing and implementing European research and innovation projects in one or more of the above-mentioned research areas
• Good results and initial significant experience in scientific publications
• Experience in collecting quantitative data and the ability to analyze and interpret complex datasets; experience in data science and statistics is a strong advantage
• Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong time management and planning skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines, handle competing demands, and work effectively under pressure
• Enthusiasm for unconventional solutions, creativity, and a proactive, self-initiated approach


Specific Requirements

The successful candidate will be required, prior to the conclusion of the employment contract, to:

  • Undergo an entry medical examination with our contracted general practitioner
  • Obtain recognition of education completed abroad
  • Provide a certificate of good conduct from their country of citizenship (in the case of applicants from outside the EU)
