Project Title: Spatial Ability for Sustainability Education: A Sweden-Singapore Comparative Study
Project Introduction:
This project examines how spatial ability can support deeper and more equitable understanding of sustainability. It addresses disparities in access to spatial learning that affect students’ ability to interpret complex systems such as climate, energy, and ecological processes. Using a comparative approach between Sweden and Singapore, the project develops and evaluates teaching methods, such as 3D modelling and visualization, and produces a framework and toolkit for inclusive, spatially enriched sustainability education.
Requirements:
- A PhD or EdD in Educational Policy, Curriculum Studies, or related fields.
- Prior experience with qualitative research methods is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organization, and communication skills for engaging and working with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical abilities and academic writing skills.
- Familiarity with, or teaching experience in, the Singapore education system would be highly advantageous.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct interdisciplinary research on the role of spatial ability in sustainability learning, including the design and implementation of a comparative study across Sweden and Singapore.
- Design, collect, and analyse quantitative and qualitative data using appropriate mixed-methods approaches.
- Develop and evaluate pedagogical interventions integrating spatial reasoning (e.g., 3D modelling, mapping, and data visualisation) into sustainability education.
- Contribute to the development of a validated research framework and open-access teaching toolkit.
- Participate in academic dissemination, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and policy-oriented outputs.
- Contribute to teaching activities in sustainability-related courses, including supporting the integration of spatial reasoning into curricula and instructional practices.
- Collaborate with faculty, instructors, and institutional partners in course development and research implementation.
- Engage in outreach activities such as workshops and seminars targeting academic and policy stakeholders
- Any other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator
