Offer Description

The research position focuses on the development and application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models describing thermochemical conversion processes of biomass and waste-derived fuels, including combustion, pyrolysis, and gasification.

The successful candidate will participate in research aimed at improving the understanding of physical and chemical processes occurring in experimental energy systems. The main research activities will involve the development, testing, and application of CFD models for selected research devices, including a small-scale biomass combustion boiler with flue gas recirculation, with particular focus on analysing the influence of flue gas recirculation on temperature distribution, emissions, and process stability, as well as a laboratory tube reactor used for studies on thermochemical conversion of biomass and alternative fuels.

The researcher will perform numerical simulations using ANSYS Fluent or equivalent CFD software, including modelling of fluid flow, turbulence, radiation, heat and mass transfer, and chemical reactions occurring in biomass conversion systems.

The work will also include integration of experimental data with numerical models, as well as model verification and validation for the analysed research systems.

In addition to modelling activities, the successful candidate will contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and project reports, supporting the dissemination of research results in international scientific forums.

Experience in CFD modelling of energy systems, combustion processes, or thermochemical conversion of solid fuels is required.

Sub research field: CFD Modelling of Thermochemical Conversion of Solid and Alternative Fuels
