Offer Description

The Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery Polish Academy of Sciences (Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych im Roberta Szewalskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk)
is the leading organization in the field of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, laser measurement techniques, machinery dynamics, tribology and diagnostics of energy production machinery. The thematic orientation of its research concerns aerodynamics, solid mechanics and energy conversion in flows including plasma and lasers.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment focused on advanced structural integrity, intelligent diagnostics, and predictive maintenance of engineering systems. The Mechanics of Intelligent Structures Department operates at the interface of mechanical engineering, materials science, and artificial intelligence, focusing on the development of intelligent, adaptive, and resilient structural systems. The Department is an interdisciplinary research unit dedicated to advancing the understanding, monitoring, and predictive modelling of modern engineering structures.
Research within the department on Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), non-destructive testing (NDT), and the mechanics of advanced materials, particularly composites and fatigue-critical structures. A key research direction involves the integration of machine learning and deep learning techniques with physics-based models to enable accurate damage detection, condition assessment, and lifetime prediction.
Strong emphasis is placed on data-driven engineering, including signal processing, feature extraction, and multi-source data fusion, as well as on the deployment of predictive algorithms in real-world industrial applications such as the energy sector (e.g., wind turbines) and aerospace engineering.
The department maintains extensive collaborations with international academic and industrial partners and participates in interdisciplinary research projects. It offers access to advanced laboratory facilities, modern sensing technologies, and high-performance computational resources, fostering an innovative and collaborative research environment.
