Offer Description

The Assistant Professor will work in the Printed Electronics, Textronics and Assembly Department. Their responsibilities will include research activities in the area of manufacturing technologies for sensors and other printed-electronics solutions, including selecting appropriate techniques, defining the process window, and selecting or developing dedicated equipment or subcomponents necessary to achieve a robust process. The Assistant Professor will be responsible for preparing proof-of-concept prototypes for selected sensing solutions, which will involve printed electronics, conventional methods for manufacturing mechanical devices, development of electrical circuits, microcontroller programming, and preparation of simple desktop or mobile applications. Additional responsibilities will include 3D CAD modelling, designing and conducting functional and validation tests of printed-electronics solutions, and designing manufacturing processes.

Skills/Qualifications
  • SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
    • Awarded PhD degree in the field of engineering and technology sciences.
    • Experience in biosensor technology, in particular enzymatic sensors and various techniques for immobilizing biocomponents, as well as ion-selective and membrane-based sensors.
    • Experience with electrochemical measurement techniques, including voltammetry, potentiometry, and conductometry.
    • Experience in rapid prototyping, including FDM, MJF, SLA, and SLS technologies.
    • Experience in machining techniques such as milling machines and lathes, and experience operating CNC machine tools.
    • Competencies required to develop complete, fully functional mechatronic solutions, including engineering skills in mechanics, electrical engineering, electronics, as well as control and automation methods.
    • Programming experience; preferred knowledge of C/C++ and Java, as well as microcontroller programming in the Arduino IDE environment and low-level programming (assembly).
    • Ability to develop simple desktop applications as well as mobile applications.
    • Knowledge of conductive polymer composites; preferred experience in developing such composites for a dedicated sensing application.
    • Expert proficiency with CAD software, in particular Autodesk Fusion and Autodesk AutoCAD; ability to design in 2D, 3D, and CAM.
    • Proficiency in PCB design in accordance with professional practice; preferred knowledge of Autodesk EAGLE.
    • Knowledge of printed electronics, textronics, and electronic assembly techniques.
    • Laboratory experience; cleanroom experience preferred.
    • Proficiency in using basic laboratory tools such as pipettes, laboratory balances, automatic micropipettes, tweezers, laboratory glassware, magnetic stirrers, and ultrasonic cleaners.
    • Proficiency in writing scientific publications, evidenced by a track record in the disciplines of biomedical engineering or automation, electronics, electrical engineering, and space technologies.
    • Experience in science dissemination activities (DUN), i.e., tasks supporting the development of Polish science through dissemination, promotion, and popularization of R&D, innovation, and inventive outcomes (international outreach preferred, and activities beyond scientific publications and conference presentations).
    • Fluent spoken and written English enabling independent work with scientific literature, writing publications, and active participation in international scientific events.

    Specific Requirements

     The candidate’s responsibilities will include preparing scientific publications and actively contributing to the drafting and submission of articles to peer-reviewed journals. They will conduct research on manufacturing technologies for sensors and other printed-electronics solutions, including selecting appropriate techniques, defining the process window, and selecting or developing dedicated equipment or subcomponents required to achieve a robust process.

     

    The role will also involve designing devices and components using 3D CAD modelling, designing printed circuit boards (PCBs), and preparing proof-of-concept prototypes for sensing solutions. This will encompass work in printed electronics, conventional fabrication of mechanical devices, development of electrical systems, microcontroller programming, and development of simple desktop or mobile applications, as well as promoting research outcomes through media, conferences, and international scientific events.

     

  • Candidates are required:
    • to have completed higher education with a master’s degree or equivalent
    • a PhD degree obtained (preferably no longer than 7 years ago, preferably in engineering and technology fields like mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics, material engineering or related fields).
  • The person applying for the post should satisfy the requirements set forth in the Law on Higher Education and Science and in § 118-121 of the Warsaw University of Technology Statute.
