Offer Description

We offer full-time employment in the position of Assistant Professor in a group of research and teaching staff 
at the Faculty of Humanities, AGH University.

The person employed in this position will be responsible for:

  • conducting cross-national research in the field of computational social sciences,
  • conducting didactic activities and lectures within sociology and/or social informatics,
  • active participation in national and international academic conferences and symposia.

 Topics: computational social sciences, digital sociology, data mining.

A monthly salary of no less than 8,770 PLN gross, a seniority allowance, and an additional annual remuneration (the 13th salary)

Skills/Qualifications

1) PHD in sociology or an equivalent discipline under previous disciplinary classifications or a PHD in a discipline related to sociology; preference will be given to candidates with a PHD in sociology,

2) documented research interests in the application of data mining techniques to the analysis of social phenomena, such as social network analysis, social media, and digital disinformation,

3) experience in conducting research using advanced IT tools, including data mining techniques,

4) willingness to conduct interdisciplinary research in the field of computational social sciences,

5) active participation in national and international academic conferences and symposia,

6) documented achievements in research, including grants, conferences, and team research projects; teaching experience, including training programs, courses, and certifications designed to develop teaching skills, as well as classroom teaching with number of hours; and organizational activities, including information about positions held in associations or institutions, experience working on project teams, and activities promoting science.


Specific Requirements

1) preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of data extraction and processing techniques (e.g., Python or R programming languages used in data analysis), tools for obtaining and processing data from digital platforms (e.g., APIs, web scraping), and/or with experience in applying at least one advanced analytical technique, such as topic modeling (LDA, STM), sentiment analysis, social network analysis (SNA), machine learning, or natural language processing (NLP) to the study of social phenomena.

2) documented international internship or research visit, and co-authorship of at least one publication with researchers from foreign research institutions.

1) Application.

2) Diploma or diplomas documenting scientific degrees.

4) In the case of a foreigner or a person who has been continuously conducting scientific activity abroad for at least the last five years preceding the announcement of the competition, recognition statement from the application https://nawa.gov.pl/en/recognition/system-kwalifikator  

5) Documents confirming knowledge of English at level B-2 (in the absence of such documents, it is possible to take an exam organized by AGH Department of foreign languages) .

6) In the case of foreigners, a document confirming knowledge of Polish at level B-1.

7) A short (up to 5 pages) proposal of research consistent with the Faculty’s profile, which the candidate could carry out in collaboration with other members of the Department. The proposal should include the scientific objective of the project, in particular the scientific hypotheses and the scientific problem the candidate will undertake to solve. The document should include the significance of research, current state of research field, a research plan, methodology, and reference to key literature.

8) Declaration that AGH will be the primary employer of the candidate.

    The recruitment procedure is divided into two stages:

  • formal assessment – assessment of the completeness of the application documents and compliance with the requirements specified in the Act, the AGH University Statute, and the competition announcement,
  • substantive assessment – an objective and merit-based assessment of applications submitted by candidates who have successfully passed the previous stage; interviews with candidates may be conducted at this stage and/or candidates may be invited to present their research project during a seminar (either in person or remotely).
