Āu Mahi | What You Will Do
Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | the University of Canterbury invites applications for a continuing academic position at the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (including Above the Bar) in Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial, future-focused Faculty and contribute to high-quality research, teaching, and service in sport and health.

In this role, you will lead curriculum development, teaching, and coordination of courses in Clinical Exercise Physiology. There will be a particular focus on postgraduate courses, however, expertise and experience in teaching exercise physiology and nutrition at an undergraduate level is also important. You will also support and facilitate student placements and internships within clinical contexts.

As an academic staff member, you will be expected to champion research excellence, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and actively pursue external funding and partnerships to develop sustainable and innovative research initiatives. You will also be expected to supervise postgraduate research students and help ensure that academic programmes remain current, impactful, and responsive to emerging needs in the field.

This appointment represents a significant opportunity for an emerging or established academic to shape the direction of research and education within the Faculty of Health and to contribute meaningfully to the development and delivery of Clinical Exercise Physiology programmes.

Mōu | Who You Are
We are seeking an academic staff member with a completed PhD in Sport, Health or a related discipline. Clinical experience in the delivery of Exercise Physiology services and registration or eligibility for professional registration as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist also required.  

What you will bring:

  • Demonstrated excellence in coordinating and leading course development and teaching in health and/or sport.
  • Recognised clinical expertise and experience in Clinical Exercise Physiology and a commitment to advancing knowledge in this field.
  • Evidence of strong professional networks and organisational partnerships in your discipline
  • An emerging programme of research in Clinical Exercise Physiology, nutrition or a related discipline, including evidence of high quality research publications and external research funding, commensurate with your level of research experience.
  • Experience supporting or leading supervision of postgraduate research students.
  • A commitment to inclusive teaching practices and reflective professional development.
  • Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori

This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $94,181 - $113,616; Senior Lecturer $119,586 - $135,630, Senior Lecturer Above the Bar $141,600 - $ 149,806.
