You will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in labour economics and microeconomics, supervise BSc and MSc theses, and contribute to high-quality education. Your job
The Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) invites applications for a Lecturer in Economics. The successful candidate will join the Economics Section of the Department.
The Lecturer is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Economics, including:
- labour economics
- microeconomics
- supervision of Bachelor’s and/or Master’s theses
Several courses require programming skills in statistical software such as R, Python and/or STATA. While teaching is currently conducted in English, the ability to teach in Dutch is an advantage.
A part-time appointment is possible, with a minimum of 0.8FTE. The position includes 10% of the time allocated to research and/or teaching innovation, with the remaining time devoted to teaching-related activities, including course preparation. The preferred starting date is August/September 2026 (negotiable), subject to a valid EU working permit.
Your qualities
Successful candidates should meet the following criteria:
A PhD in Economics (candidates who have submitted their dissertation and are awaiting their defence are also encouraged to apply);
Demonstrated experience in teaching in higher education, preferably at the university level;
Clear potential for excellence in teaching a range of economics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as supervising BSc and MSc theses;
Programming skills in R, Python and/or STATA;
Excellent command of spoken and written English;
- A University Teaching Qualification (UTQ, Dutch: BKO) or a willingness to obtain this qualification.
Our offer
- A fixed-term appointment as Lecturer for up to 4 years
- a working week of 28 - 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between € 4.728 and €6.433 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 11 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
- 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
- a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
