Post/s of Full-Time Research Support Officer II

Projects under cluster MALGENPOP - “The Maltese Population Genomics Research Cluster.”

Funded by the Cluster Founding Programme of the University of Malta.

 

Applications are invited for a Research Support Officer (RSO) to carry out duties in relation to the Projects undertaken by the MALGENPOP Cluster, which is funded by the Cluster Founding Programme of the University of Malta.

 

Applicants must be in possession of a Master’s degree in Genomics, Molecular Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics or a related subject.

The post is for an initial period of 12 months, which may be extended for a further period of 24 months, subject to the availability of funds.

 

The initial remuneration per annum, inclusive of any cost-of-living adjustments, shall be €30,327.

The MALGENPOP research aims to catalyse population-scale genomics research in Malta by generating an unprecedented, large-scale genomic dataset derived from the DwarnaBio national biobank. Our mission is to create a comprehensive, high-quality collection of whole-genome sequences using a blend of short and long read technologies that will serve as a foundational resource for the systematic analysis of genetic variation in the Maltese population. This dataset will empower bioinformaticians, geneticists, clinicians, and data scientists at the University of Malta and beyond to address critical questions in human health, disease, and population history.  Further information may be obtained by contacting Prof. Nikolai Pace at nikolai.p.pace@um.edu.mt

 

The appointee will be responsible for carrying out research with the main duties including: 

  • Participate in the project communication activities (e.g., scientific manuscript writing, conference presentation, public outreach activities);
  • Carry out research visits and attend meetings;
  • Keep detailed progress reports and abide to all the conditions imposed by the project; and
  • Perform any other project related task as instructed by the Project Coordinator, including:
    • Participate in outreach and dissemination of biobanking activities; and
    • Carry out participant recruitment, collection and processing of biological specimens.

 

The appointee will be expected to work at such places and during such hours as may be determined by the University authorities.

 

The selection procedure will involve:

  • scrutiny of qualifications and experience claimed and supported by testimonials and/or certificates (copies to be included with the application);
  • shortlisting; and
  • an interview and / or extended interview.

 

The post is for an initial period of up to 12 months, which will be subject to a probationary period and to the provisions of the Statutes, Regulations and Bye-Laws of the University of Malta which are now or which may hereafter be in force.
