Further Information

The project aims to advance prosthetic technology through various means. It utilises 3D printing and generative design to create a modular prosthesis cover that balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. Research focuses on enhancing the performance of both functional knee and fixed ankle prototypes, along with integrated sensor technology for improved mobility. An AI-based Human-Machine-Interface, employing machine learning and neural networks, enables real-time control by the user. Embedded sensors enhance functionality, while mechatronic design research improves energy efficiency and power-to-weight ratio. Additionally, the project aims to enhance decision-making through an AI-driven Product Service System Framework, ensuring adaptability to live information. Interface and layout enhancements for the Patient/Prosthesis Management System are also prioritised for better user experience, ultimately benefiting amputees. Further information may be obtained by contacting Professor Ing. Philip Farrugia at philip.farrugia@um.edu.mt .  The RSO may also be required to work on other projects undertaken by the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering.
