Are you passionate about research? So are we! Come and join us

The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment and IT. By transforming scientific knowledge into technologies, smart data and tools, LIST empowers citizens in their choices, public authorities in their decisions and businesses in their strategies.

Do you want to know more about LIST? Check our website: https://www.list.lu/

How will you contribute?

The position is in the NMR facility within LIST’s Elemental and Molecular Analysis group at LIST’s Advanced Analyses and Support unit.

The Lab’s activities encompass providing support using liquid- and solid-state NMR for research teams at LIST and partner institutes, industrial partners and pursuing its own research projects.

You will be mentored by the current Head of NMR facility - Cédric Guignard - and closely work together with him, with the objective of getting a full autonomy and assume scientific and organizational responsibilities in a mid-term perspective.

Besides ensuring day-to-day operations such as user training (both basic and advanced), experiment setup, method development, maintenance, scientific vigilance…, there will be ample opportunity to define and manage as principal investigator R&D and technological projects, as well as participate in work packages of other projects.

The position offers a unique opportunity to develop collaborative and independent research programs that are expected to be complementary to the existing strengths of the institute and closely connected to the research activities of related institutes.

Scientific independence, initiative, and the development of new directions within NMR will be actively encouraged and supported.

Scientific Environment

The NMR facility is embedded in a highly collaborative research environment with strong links across disciplines. The successful candidate will benefit from:

•       Access to a modern and versatile NMR infrastructure (Bruker Avance III 600HD, that will be complemented in 2026 with a 400MHz instrument, each with both liquids and solids capability)

•       Empowerment and upskilling in NMR spectroscopy

•       Close scientific exchange within the institute and with partner institutes

•       Support in shaping a distinct research profile aligned with institutional priorities

The main responsibilities will be:

·          Ensuring day to day operations, including instrument maintenance, support for internal and external partners from both academic and industrial background

·          General management of the NMR facility: planning, organisation, user support and training (basic and advanced)

·          Technological survey, maintenance of the performance and scientific relevance of the instruments on a long-term basis.

·          Contribute to the development of LIST’s NMR capabilities by looking out for funding opportunities

·          Contribution to dissemination, valorisation and transfer of RDI results (patents, licenses, prototypes, publications, technical reports, participation in conferences)

·          Develop and establish an independent NMR-based research program

Is Your profile described below? Are you our future colleague? Apply now!

Education

PhD in organic chemistry, material sciences, biochemistry or comparable

Experience and skills

Proven hands-on experience (>5 years) in liquid state and/or solid state NMR spectroscopy in an academic or industrial setting, including troubleshooting and maintenance of the instrument.

Good knowledge of NMR theory, instrumentation and software.

Experience in writing, first authoring of publications and reports.

Excellent communication, flexibility, organizational and interpersonal skills with team-oriented mind-set

Interest in setting-up new academic and industrial collaborations.

Advanced programming skills (e.g. Python) would be considered as an asset.
