* Background of the recruitment and description of the project
Mission of ISEE and Division for Cosmic-ray Research: The Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research (ISEE)*1, Nagoya University, conducts studies to elucidate the mechanisms and interactions of various phenomena in the holistic Earth, Sun, and Universe system. The mission of ISEE is to contribute to solutions for global environmental problems facing humankind and to the progress of human society spreading into space through the integration of space science and earth science. ISEE plays a unique role in linking these disciplines as one of Japan's Joint Usage / Research Centers*2 and promotes a wide variety of collaborative research. To realize this mission, ISEE has organized seven research divisions, three research centers, and an Office for the Development of Interdisciplinary Research Strategy, and the Office for the Promotion of Transdisciplinary Network. The Division for Cosmic-ray Research*3 conducts broad research on physical processes in extreme environments in the universe and their effects on terrestrial environments by studying acceleration, propagation, and interaction of cosmic rays from their origins until their arrival at the Earth.
