We value the unique experiences, knowledge, backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives of our people. By embracing diversity, we believe science can achieve its fullest potential.

THE ROLE

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where junior and senior scientists collaborate, each with their expertise, to carry out a scientific activity with a shared research goal.

The Optical Approaches to Brain Function Research Unit is coordinated by Tommaso Fellin. The research focuses on the development of advanced optical approaches to dissect out the activity of brain circuits with enhanced spatiotemporal resolution.

One position will focus on the development of advanced optical approaches to dissect out the activity of brain circuits with enhanced spatiotemporal resolution. Non-exhaustive examples of technologies that will be used in the project include large-scale two-photon fluorescence microscopy (two-photon mesoscopy), holographic stimulation methods for precise manipulation of brain cells, two-photon endoscopy, and miniaturized two-photon microscopy in freely moving in vivo models.

The second position will focus on the application of the advanced microscopy methods described above to investigate the activity of hippocampal neuronal and non-neuronal cells during spatial navigation in in vivo models.

Applicants for the first position should have a strong background in neurophotonics and applied optics, while ideal applicants for the second position should have solid experience in neurophysiology, circuit neuroscience, or behavioral neuroscience. Previous experience with functional brain imaging and methods to analyze temporal series from microscopy experiments is desirable for both positions. Applicants should be highly independent with a strong propensity for interdisciplinary research. Candidates must be highly motivated and creative individuals who want to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural research environment and who are willing to interact with both experimental and computational scientists.
