Offer Description

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Engineer within UCD School of Mechanical & Materials Engineering.
The Researcher Engineer will support the National Space Subsystems and Payloads Initiative (NSSPI) by developing and validating spacecraft communications and mission modelling capabilities that accelerate technology integration within the DTIF-funded consortium. The post exists to help de-risk the integration of subsystem and payload technologies by providing robust simulation tools and evidence-based performance assessment to inform design decisions across partner activities.
Reporting to the NSSPI technical lead within UCD, the role will design, implement and maintain spacecraft communications and system-level simulation models, with a focus on optical communications and autonomous smart satellite mission concepts. Key responsibilities include defining model requirements with SME partners, developing test cases and verification plans, and contributing to Assembly, Integration and Test (AIT) support through performance testing and documentation.
Salary: €51,000 per annum.
Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 16/03/2026.
Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system.
UCD are unable to accept late applications.
