Post Summary

The Department of Economics, School of Social Sciences and Philosophy, is seeking to appoint two Assistant Professors in Economics, to commence on 4th August 2026. The Department invites applications in any field of Economics to add to its existing research strengths.

There are two specific-purpose appointments available, each intended to provide temporary backfill cover for the permanent postholder. As the postholder is expected to return, these roles are not offered on an indefinite basis. Should the postholder not return, the positions will be filled through open competition.

Post Status:Specific Purpose Contracts (x2)

1x Secondment cover

This position is offered on a temporary basis to cover an Assistant Professor vacancy during a period of secondment. The role is not permanent, as the substantive postholder is expected to return. Should the postholder not return, the position will be filled through open competition.

1x Maternity Leave cover

This position is offered on a temporary basis to cover an Assistant Professor vacancy during a period of maternity leave. The role is not permanent, as the substantive postholder is expected to return. Should the postholder not return, the position will be filled through open competition.

Salary: Appointment will be made on Assistant Professor Salary Scale (109) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy [ €43,425 - €103,582 per annum] https://www.tcd.ie/hr/assets/pdf/monthly-academic.pdf

3.       Research statement - 2 x A4 pages maximum. This statement summarizes current and future research plans.

4.       Teaching statement - 2 x A4 pages maximum. This statement should include a discussion of the applicant’s capacity to teach current modules in the Departments of Economics and a discussion of additional modules that could be provided.

5.       In addition, candidates should also submit three letters of recommendation via Econ Job Market: Letters of recommendation from referees (submitted via https://econjobmarket.org/)
