Research Assistant / Project Assistant (Full-time/Part-time) (several posts)

Duties

The appointees will assist the project leader in the research project - “Advancing the identification of developmental language disorder in Mandarin-Cantonese bilingual children: a reference standard and novel assessment measures”. The studies involve several experimental tasks to assess children’s cognitive and language abilities.  They will be required to:

(a)    assist in subject recruitment, data collection, transcription, and data coding/annotation and analysis;

(b)    co-supervise student assistants in data collection and management tasks;

(c)    work in the research team with other research personnel to support studies investigating language processing in Cantonese- or Mandarin- speaking children with normal and atypical language development; and

(d)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    be a dedicated graduate holding a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in Linguistics, Speech Therapy, Psychology, or a related discipline, preferably with a solid background in language acquisition and psycholinguistics;

(b)    be a native speaker of Cantonese, with Mandarin proficiency preferred;

(c)    preferably have experience in administering experimental studies to school-aged children; and

(d)    ideally desire to pursue further study (e.g., PhD or MA/Master of Speech Therapy) and would like to accrue some related research experience prior to further studies. (PhD opportunity is available at the Department under the supervision of the project leader and his/her local and overseas collaborators from internationally leading research universities/institutes/centres.)

Conditions of Service

For full-time appointment, a highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. 

For part-time appointment, the remuneration rate is HK$125 per hour.
