Research Assistant Professor in Microbiome and Health

The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is a multi-disciplinary department established from 1 January 2023 under the Faculty of Science.  With the unique standing in Hong Kong and the commitment to quality teaching, research excellence and knowledge transfer, the Department is envisioned to develop all-rounded graduates with professional qualifications, and promote interdisciplinary research with positive societal impacts.  The Department’s key research pillars are Food Safety, Food Technology, Human Nutrition and Chinese Medicine.  Currently, there are about 21 academic and teaching staff and 13 Research Assistant Professors in the Department. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a)    conduct interdisciplinary and fundamental research in Microbiome and Health as the main duty, and actively pursue external research grants as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

(b)    provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

(c)    engage in publicity activities that increase visibility of the Department and the University;

(d)    provide expert advice and service to the local and international communities on food-related issues; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should:

(a)    have a PhD degree in a related discipline and strong track record in Microbiome and Health;

(b)    preferably have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience;

(c)    have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

(d)    be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

(e)    be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for two to three years initially, with possibility of extension.
