The School of Optometry is one of five academic units in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The School is the sole provider of an Honours Undergraduate Programme in Optometry, Master of Science in Vision Science and Innovation, Doctor of Optometry and Doctor of Health Sciences (Optometry) Programme in Hong Kong.  The five-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry is a registrable qualification with the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a)    teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supervise students in their clinical training;

(b)    perform other teaching support functions such as supervising students in projects including clinical/research projects;

(c)    coordinate clinical education of students and develop specialty clinical training programmes to enhance students’ expertise in specific areas;

(d)    provide support for student development, including mentoring, fostering personal and professional growth;

(e)    carry out administrative duties relating to clinical training and programme operation; and

(f)     perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates.

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a)    a relevant master’s degree plus not less than three years of post-qualification/post-registration experience in Optometry or a related discipline;

(b)    a qualification registrable with the Optometrists Board of the HKSAR;

(c)    demonstrated contribution to optometry education innovations;

(d)    demonstrated academic management and leadership capabilities; and

(e)    good interpersonal and communication skills.

Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered.  Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract.  Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
