Offer Description

The Research Unit of the University of the Aegean invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (R2-PhD) position within the 5G-BusNET project (evolved SchoolBusNET) in the context of the ENVELOPE 5G platform Open Call. The Postdoctoral Researcher (R2-PhD) will contribute to all scientific and technical objectives of the 5G-BusNET project, focusing primarily on the development, implementation and evaluation of advanced applications for network benchmarking, road hazard warning, and pseudo-remote driving supported by computer vision, while also supporting the broader research and integration activities of the platform. In particular, the researcher will design and implement mechanisms for the measurement and analysis of network performance across heterogeneous wireless infrastructures, enabling benchmarking of connectivity quality and service reliability. They will also contribute to the development of road hazard detection and warning mechanisms that leverage onboard sensing, geolocation, and real-time data exchange between vehicles and infrastructure. A key research direction will involve the implementation and evaluation of a pseudo-remote driving application, where computer vision techniques are used to support remote situational awareness and assistive vehicle control capabilities. In addition, the researcher will participate in the integration of system components and services with the ENVELOPE (Experimental Network Environment for Validating and Operationalizing Platform-based Experiments) platform under the SNS JU (Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking) programme of Horizon Europe, supporting experimentation, performance evaluation and system validation. Activities will include the analysis of QoS (Quality of Service) metrics, the definition and assessment of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and KVIs (Key Value Indicators), the execution of experimental trials using vehicular communication technologies including V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything communication), and the preparation of technical documentation and scientific outputs contributing to the successful delivery and impact of the 5G-BusNET project. Activities include software integration (edge/cloud), data acquisition/processing, network performance benchmarking, system testing and documentation.
