Offer Description
The research group of Molecular Entomology under the European Program HORIZON-WIDERA-2024-TALENTS-03, entitled “stRengthening human capital and increasing the excellencE of Widening-country organisations iN R&I For bio-based, lOw-risk and smaRt Crop protection” (Program Coordinator Prof. Spyros Fountas) invites applications for one (1) Research Technician.
About the lab
Molecular Entomology Lab in IMBB-FORTH has a main interest to study and understand the mechanisms by which disease vectors and agricultural pests develop resistance to insecticides, as well as explore novel insecticide targets and biotechnology based approaches to control insects.
Job Description:
The successful applicant must be Biologist or Agronomist who will be part of the insecticide resistance group and they will mainly work on resistance mechanisms and contributing to the overall management of the project. He/She should also be adaptable and able to work with a range of people in a multicultural environment and available to travel for a long period of time to European countries for the needs of the project. Excellent knowledge of the English language is required.

Skills/Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- BSc in Biology, Biotechnology or Agricultural Science (specialization in Plant Protection)
- MSc or equivalent integrated Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology or Agricultural Science
- Availability to travel for a long period of time to European countries for the needs of the project
- More than two years experience with insecticide resistance, with a particular emphasis on evaluation of resistance or investigation of the resistance mechanisms in insects’ pests and application of molecular diagnostics.
Desired qualifications:
- Working experience in molecular entomology
- Working experience on arthropod rearing and breeding (in particular spider thrips))
- Participation in research projects (design and conduct molecular experiments, analyze and interpret data, contribute to scientific reports)

Benefits
Contract Duration: 12 months with the possibility of extension according to the project needs.
Total budget: 1500-1800€ monthly cost (incl. tax and social security)

Evaluation procedure
Applications will be evaluated by a three-member evaluation committee. In case of interview procedure, applicants will be invited to participate in person or teleconference.
In case of titles and qualifications awarded by foreign Higher Education Institutions, the provisions of the Law 55/2023 (article 36) and 4957/2022 (article 304) are implemented.
The results of the selection will be announced on the website of IMBB-FORTH. Applicants have the right to appeal the selection decision, by addressing their written objection to the IMBB secretariat within five days since the results announcement on the web. Objections are submitted in one of the following ways: in person, by an authorized person, by post, by courier. They also have the right to access (a) the files of the applicants as well as (b) the table of applicants’ scores (ranking of applicants results). All the above information related to the selection procedure will be available at the secretariat of IMBB-FORTH in line with the Hellenic Data Protection Authority. Access to personal data of co- applicants shall be limited to personal data (and relevant data) and supporting documents which have been the basis of the evaluation of the applicants for the specific post(s). Prior to the announcement of the personal data and/or documents of the co- applicants to the applicant, FORTH will inform the data subjects in an appropriate way.
The selected applicants will be notified personally regarding the success of his/her application and will be requested to submit certified copies of his/her degrees. If the submitted documents do not agree with the original application, the applicant will be dismissed.
