Faculty of Life Sciences
We offer a
W2 Professorship for Formulation of Biopharmaceuticals
The appointment is for the earliest possible date.
Your responsibilities
The professorship will focus its research on pharmaceutical-technological aspects of the processing of biomacromolecular active ingredients into applicable drug products and thus build a bridge to bioprocess engineering and biotechnology. It will thus play a central role in the research network of the Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ) and strengthen the core research area "Engineering for Health – from Molecules to Processes" of TU Braunschweig. The professorship will be based at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics and the PVZ. Its research will center around pharmaceutical formulation of protein‑ and/or nucleic acid-based active ingredients. Conceivable are, for example, modern approaches in the field of
- antibody formulations (e.g. highly concentrated preparations, alternative routes of administration)
- nanoparticulate formulations for nucleic acid therapeutics
- data‑/AI-supported formulation strategies for macromolecular biopharmaceuticals
In teaching, the professorship represents the subject "Pharmaceutics/Biopharmaceutics" in its entirety. It is associated with teaching duties at all levels of student education in the Pharmacy degree program according to the licensing regulations for pharmacists (state examination) and in pharmaceutical process engineering-oriented degree programs (MSc Pharmaceutical Process Engineering, BSc Biochemical, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering). A license to practice as a pharmacist is an advantage.
The successful candidate (f/m/d) is expected to be committed to the university’s strategic goals and to actively shape its holistic development (https://www.tu-braunschweig.de/hochschulentwicklung ). In addition to the classic service areas of a university (research, teaching and studies, transfer, governance and administration), this applies in particular to digitalisation, internationalisation, equality and diversity, as well as knowledge exchange.
Our expectations
- Internationally recognised research in the field of formulation of biomacromolecular active pharmaceutical ingredients, demonstrated in particular by relevant publications in international journals
- Profound knowledge of pharmaceutical technology and biopharmacy as well as teaching experience in this field
- Track record of successful external research funding acquisition
- Experience in leading your own research group
- Willingness to actively contribute to the core research area "Engineering for Health – from Molecules to Processes" at the Technische Universität Braunschweig and to research at the PVZ
- Commitment to local and national networking and interdisciplinary research with working groups within and outside the Faculty of Life Sciences as well as with non-university research institutions
- Excellent command of the English language, as well as the ability and willingness to teach courses in German and English
- International experiences and commitment to internationalisation of the university in teaching and research
- Commitment to active participation in academic self-administration
Individual career decisions and career breaks due to parental/family care leave affecting research output will be taken into account by the appointment committee.
Requirements, § 25 NHG
- A degree in a relevant field
- Pedagogical aptitude
- Special qualification for in-depth independent scientific work, as a rule proven by an above-average doctorate
- Additional academic achievements, usually within the framework of a junior professorship, a postdoctoral degree (Habilitation) or achievements equivalent to a Habilitation
