Offer Description
Scientific Research Assistant
Foundational Physics, Biophysics, and Scientific Communication
About the Position
We are looking for a versatile scientific research assistant to join a small, ambitious research program working at the boundaries of mathematical physics, quantum theory, and biophysics. The work spans theory, experiment, and communication — and we need someone who is willing to engage with all three.
The research centers on the Quantum Blueprint Formalism (QBF), a foundational physics program that derives quantum mechanics, general relativity, and biological coherence from structural principles. The corpus currently comprises over 60 published papers, an active dialogue with external research groups, and a planned experimental program in biophotonics.
The position is based at Schloss Kränzlin near Neuruppin in Brandenburg — a quiet, focused environment for deep scientific work.
What You Would Do
The role has three dimensions. The balance between them is flexible and will evolve with the project’s needs and your strengths.
Theoretical work. Supporting the development of mathematical derivations — checking proofs, running numerical simulations, implementing models in Python or Mathematica, researching the relevant literature. You do not need to be an expert in all areas the QBF touches (no one is), but you should be able to read a paper in an unfamiliar subfield and extract its key results.
Experimental work. Helping to design and run laboratory experiments, starting with a biophoton detection experiment (measuring photon counting statistics from biological tissue). This involves setting up optical equipment, preparing samples, acquiring data, and performing statistical analysis. Prior laboratory experience is helpful but not essential — what matters is the willingness to learn hands-on skills.
Scientific communication. Drafting correspondence with researchers at universities and institutes, preparing manuscripts for submission, maintaining the paper archive, and helping to organize collaborative exchanges. This requires clear, professional written English and attention to detail.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- A degree in physics, mathematics, biophysics, or a related natural science (Master’s level or above)
- Solid mathematical foundations — you should be comfortable with calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and basic probability at the university level
- Experience with scientific computing (Python, Mathematica, MATLAB, or similar)
- Strong written and spoken English
- Curiosity across disciplinary boundaries — the work requires moving between pure mathematics, physics, and biology
- Self-organization — the team is small, the environment is independent, and you will need to manage your own time
Helpful but not required:
- A PhD or doctoral research experience
- Laboratory experience (optics, spectroscopy, photon counting, or biosignal measurement)
- Background in any of: quantum field theory, stochastic processes, Riemannian geometry, quantum optics, or biophysics
- Experience preparing scientific manuscripts or managing journal submissions
- Familiarity with LaTeX
- Programming beyond basic scripts (numerical methods, data analysis pipelines, visualization)
- Fit in state of the art AI usage
We are not looking for a narrow specialist. We are looking for someone who learns quickly, works carefully, and is comfortable with the fact that the research is unconventional.
Practical Details
Location: Schloss Kränzlin, Brandenburg, Germany. The position is on-site. The castle provides a concentrated working environment away from urban distractions.
Language: English is the working language. German is not required.
Duration: Initially 12 months, with the possibility of extension depending on results and funding.
Start date: As soon as possible.
