Context and contributions of the position

Joining the French Geological Survey (BRGM) means becoming part of France's leading public institution for Earth Science applications bringing together 1,000 wholeheartedly committed experts across 29 bases in Mainland and Overseas France. BRGM focuses on enhancing geological knowledge and understanding of surface and sub-surface-related phenomena, with a view to: meeting the challenges of environmental changes through innovative projects with societal implications.
As part of its scientific research, public policy support, and international cooperation and development activities, BRGM is recruiting an experienced Research Engineer – Geologist Petrologist for the Geology, Geophysics and Geomodelling Department (DCGS), within the Basement Geology, Orogenic Systems and Sedimentary Basins Unit (GSB).

Job description

Scientific and Technical Expertise
-Conduct and lead research in orogenic domains, drawing on your expertise in magmatic petrology, geochemistry, geochronology, and geodynamics of basement and orogenic systems, with a particular focus on granites.
-Strengthen BRGM's scientific expertise at both national and international levels.
-Synthesize existing knowledge and contribute to the structuring of geological reference frameworks.
Project Management and Coordination
-Lead and coordinate cross-disciplinary projects aligned with BRGM's strategic priorities (mineral resources, water, natural hazards, energy).
-Develop and manage responses to national, European, and international calls for proposals, and contribute to the design of research, public policy support, and commercial projects.
-Supervise or support multidisciplinary teams in delivering integrated projects (geological mapping, 3D modelling, field data acquisition).
Dissemination and Knowledge Transfer
-Promote and disseminate scientific results in France and internationally.
-Contribute to the improvement of geological data management tools (GIS, data models, registries/lexicons).
 

Profile

You hold a PhD in Geosciences and have completed a postdoctoral fellowship abroad.
You will demonstrate the following skills and competencies:
Scientific and Technical Expertise
-Strong expertise in magmatic petrology and geochemistry, with a specialization in granites.
-Solid understanding of magmatic processes in orogenic settings.
-Skills in geochronology, geodynamics, and structural geology.
-Experience in geological mapping and/or 3D geological modelling.
-Proficiency in GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS).
Project Management & Collaboration
-Proven experience in project management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams.
-Ability to lead proposal development and manage complex projects.
-Proactive mindset and autonomy in conducting scientific and operational projects.
Personal Skills
- Rigor, organization, and autonomy.
- Excellent ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong motivation for applied geosciences and knowledge sharing.
- Good command of professional English.
