Offer Description

The ATLAS / FCC group at the Laboratoire d'Annecy de Physique des Particules (LAPP) is inviting applications for a joint postdoctoral position for two years starting in Fall 2026.
The successful candidate will be interested in measuring the Higgs boson self-coupling at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) with the ATLAS experiment, and in contributing to the R&D of a future detector for the Future Circular Collider electron-positron collider (FCC-ee).

The candidate will participate in the Higgs boson pair production analysis exploiting the Run 3 LHC collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment and will contribute to the R&D of the ALLEGRO liquefied noble gas calorimeter for the future FCC-ee ALLEGRO detector, with simulation studies and hands-on work on the early prototypes of this detector. Depending on time and interest, the candidate could also contribute to feasibility studies for measurements of Higgs boson coupling properties at FCC-ee.

Thanks to the geographical proximity to CERN (50 km from LAPP), the position could be either based at LAPP with regular travel to CERN, or the other way around. Supervision of PhD and Master students could be arranged.

LAPP is a laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics (IN2P3), an institute of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), which coordinates programs in these fields. LAPP is a joint research unit (UMR 5814) of the CNRS and the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc (USMB). More than 150 researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians, administrators, students, and foreign visitors work there. The research car-ried out at LAPP aims to study the physics of elementary particles and their fundamental interactions, as well as to explore their links with the great structures of the Universe. The work of the LAPP teams aims, among other things, to understand the origin of the mass of particles, to unravel the mystery of dark matter or to determine what happened to the antimatter present in our universe at the time of the Big Bang. The location of LAPP, 50 km from CERN, and the presence of the theory laboratory LAPTh in the same premises, make the LAPP campus a very attractive research place. LAPP hosts the MUST mid-range data storage and computing center.

The LAPP ATLAS group is one of the founding members of the ATLAS collaboration, and one of the key actors in the discovery of a Higgs boson and the precision measurement of its properties. The group is also involved in direct searches for new phenomena, precision measurements in gauge-boson sectors, as well as in the upgrade of the Liquid Argon calorimeter electronics and the construction of the new pixel detector for HL-LHC. The group's expertise in physics analysis and detector development has also been directed to physics studies for the FCC-ee project and FCC detector R&D, especially in the development of the future ALLEGRO liquefied noble gas calorimeter and the measurement of the Higgs properties at FCC-ee.

Additional Information
Eligibility criteria

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree in particle physics, obtained less than 3 years before the starting date of the position.

Good experience in data analysis, knowledge of statistical techniques for high energy physics ex-periments, and an interest in detector development are required. Previous experience with the analysis of LHC data, based on solid C++ and Python expertise, is strongly appreciated. Ability to work in a large international collaboration is a must.

Fluency in English, speaking and writing (B2 minimum) is necessary. Basic knowledge of French could be useful but is not compulsory (and French courses could be provided to the candidate should they be interested).
