The IBMD, located on the Luminy Campus, comprises approximately 220 permanent staff members—including researchers, faculty members, engineers, and technicians—as well as temporary staff on fixed-term contracts, postdocs, doctoral students, and interns, distributed across 21 research teams and 11 technical platforms and services. The IBDM is a joint research unit under the supervision of the CNRS and AMU, which explores the field of developmental biology and associated pathologies. The work will be carried out within the “Computational Biology” team led by Bianca HABERMANN. As the laboratory is composed of members of various nationalities, fluency in English is essential.
Myomedusa: How Did Muscles Evolve?
As part of this project, we aim to trace the evolutionary history of our striated muscle. To answer this question, we will analyze genomic data, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data, and structural data from cnidarians, and we will develop new algorithms to analyze the evolutionary history of muscle components. You will study the evolution of muscle components during development by comparing different species. You will use single-cell sequencing, protein sequences, and structural data to elucidate how striated muscle has evolved from simple species, such as cnidarians, to complex species, such as Drosophila melanogaster or humans.
