Offer Description
Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in AI methods for financial economics at the Department of Finance. The position is funded by a grant from the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is part of DNRF Chair Professor Niels Joachim Gormsen’s research program on the cost of capital.
The Research
The postdoc will work with Professor Gormsen (Copenhagen Business School) and Professor Kilian Huber (University of Chicago) to implement new AI methods for the study of firms’ cost of capital based on textual analysis. The project uses large language models and other AI tools to extract economic information from corporate documents, earnings calls, and other text sources. The goal is to advance our understanding of how firms perceive and use their cost of capital – and how this shapes investment decisions and the broader economy.
More information about the research program can be found at costofcapital.org and at the DNRF project page .
The Position
The postdoc will be part of the Department of Finance at Copenhagen Business School and will have no teaching obligations. The position is fully devoted to research. While the primary task is to contribute to the cost of capital project, the postdoc will also have time to pursue their own research projects.
The position comes with a travel budget, and the postdoc is encouraged to interact with the global academic community on relevant topics through conferences and research visits. The position will prepare the applicant for an academic career in finance or economics as well as a career in the financial industry more broadly.
The Postdoc is a non-tenured position for a 2-year period with research obligation. The ideal starting date is August 1, 2026, but this can be negotiated.
To fulfill the research requirements of the position, the applicant chosen is expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the research activities of the Department.
Qualifications
The applicant must hold a PhD or the equivalent in computer science, economics, finance, or a related field. In assessing applications, particular emphasis will be placed on research potential. Emphasis is placed on research relevant to the job description.
The applicant must have excellent professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Required:
- Strong knowledge of how to use AI and large language models (LLMs) for data extraction. The ability to work efficiently with AI assistants such as Claude (e.g., via Claude Code) or to implement large language models independently is a necessity.
- Strong programming skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Regular presence at the Department of Finance at Copenhagen Business School.
Desirable:
- Experience with extracting structured information from unstructured text (natural language processing, text mining, or related methods).
- Background in financial economics or macroeconomics.
- Research potential as evidenced by publications or working papers.
