Based on the Call for project proposals of the Croatian Science Foundation, Program: „Postdoctoral Research Projects (PDIP-2026)“ and on the decision of the Council of the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka, the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka, Radmile Matejčić 2, announces this
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
for the selection of one associate to an associate position of senior assistant (project leader) for a fixed-term employment contract, for a period of two years, full-time, in the field of Natural Sciences, area of Physics, to work on a project in accordance with the Croatian Science Foundation's call for applications "Postdoctoral Research Projects (PDIP-2026)" (hereinafter: PDIP-2026 Call) at the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka.
The competition is announced in accordance with the Call for project proposals of the Croatian Science Foundation (hereinafter: the Call), Program: “Postdoctoral Research Projects (PDIP-2026)” published at: https://hrzz.hr/prijava/otvoreni-natjecaji/ , as the first part of a two-stage process. The second process is conducted by the Croatian Science Foundation. Candidates for PDIP project leaders apply to the Croatian Science Foundation independently of the application for the relevant competition, completing the documentation requested by the competition. After the closing of the Croatian Science Foundation's competition, the Croatian Science Foundation evaluates the project applications.
The following documents must be submitted with the application:
- CV (Curriculum Vitae),
- identification document,
- a copy of proof of the required qualifications, i.e. doctoral degree,
- a list of publications and relevant publications,
- motivation letter in Croatian or English, highlighting the applicant's motivation for the position and any qualifications for preferential treatment based on the conditions listed below,
Candidates must meet the requirements for the associate position of senior assistant prescribed by the Higher Education and Scientific Activity Act (OG 119/2022), and in accordance with the PDIP-2026 call for applications must meet following requirements:
- the doctorate must be obtained no more than 5 (five) years before the deadline for submitting applications to the PDIP-2026 Call (deadline 6.5.2026.),
- must have an ORCID identifier.
The selected candidate (project leader) will be employed depending on the results of the PDIP-2026 Call, and the main outcome of this call for applications is related to the project evaluation process conducted by the Croatian Science Foundation. Only a candidate who is positively evaluated and selected in this competition and whose project proposal is positively evaluated and favorably ranked on the PDIP-2026 Call scoring scales can be employed and their project can be financed. In accordance with the PDIP-2026 Call, the project leader is a scientist responsible for conducting research and scientifically managing the entire project.
Conditions for preferential treatment in the selection process:
- previous work experience in the field of optomechanics and/or optics,
- well-developed interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work successfully in an interdisciplinary and collaborative team.
Both men and women may apply under the same conditions. Terms that have gender significance are used neutrally and refer equally to both males and females.
The selected candidate will be required to submit an opinion of the competent agency of the foreign educational qualification before starting the employment. Details on this procedure and the required documentation can be found here .
Candidates who, based on special regulations – The Croatian Homeland War Veterans and Their Families Act (Official Gazette 121/17, 98/19, 84/21 and 156/23), Article 48 of the Civilian Victims of the Homeland War Act (Official Gazette 84/21), Article 48f of the Act on the Protection of Military and Civilian War Invalids (Official Gazette 33/92, 57/92, 77/92, 27/93, 58/93, 02/94, 76/94, 108/95, 108/96, 82/01, 103/03, 148/13 and 98/19), Article 9 of the Act on Professional Rehabilitation and Employment of Persons with Disabilities (Official Gazette 157/13, 152/14., 39/18. and 32/20.), invoke the right to priority in employment, are obliged to refer to this right in their application and to enclose all evidence required by special regulations for the exercise of this right. Candidates who refer to this preferential treatment will only be given preference under equal conditions.

By applying for the call, candidates expressly agree that the University of Rijeka as the manager of the personal data collection, may collect, use and further process data for the purpose of the selection process in accordance with applicable legal regulations.
The deadline for submitting applications with supporting documents is 30 days from the date of the call announcement in the Official Gazette.

The Faculty reserves the right to conduct candidate testing, of which candidates who have submitted timely and complete applications that meet all formal requirements of the call will be notified subsequently. Candidates who do not respond to the interview before the committee and/or testing, lose their candidate status and the opportunity to participate in the further qualification procedure. The Faculty reserves the right to cancel the call and not select any candidate, without any specific explanation.
Incomplete, untimely, and applications that do not meet the formal requirements of the call will not be considered.
The notice of the outcome of the call will be published upon completion of the call procedure on the University of Rijeka, Faculty od Physic's website.
