One post-doctoral position is available at the HIDROSIS – Science Center for Development of Inland Waterway Systems, one of the SCDs in São Paulo state (Brazil) supported by FAPESP, the São Paulo Research Foundation. HIDROSIS is hosted by the University of São Paulo's Engineering School (POLI-USP).

The researcher will work on the analysis and development of solutions for inland waterway transportation. The activities include:

1) Comparative analysis of inland waterway transport in relation to other transport modes.

2) Study of production chains with potential use of the Tietê–Paraná Waterway.

3) Solving problems associated with the definition of regular navigation services.

4) Modeling and solving the lock transit scheduling problem.

Requirements:

• PhD in engineering or a field related to the project;

• Knowledge and proven expertise in computational optimization methods and discrete-event simulation, with experience in regular service design;

• Proficiency in English communication;

• Availability to work in São Paulo at the University of São Paulo (USP).

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,570.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
