Activities: The fellow will be responsible for mapping successional stages and the carbon sequestration potential of native vegetation across the state of São Paulo (Brazil), using Light Detection and Range-LiDAR profiling data covering the entire state. LiDAR technology will enable a detailed analysis of forest structure, while deep learning techniques—particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs)—will be applied to identify complex canopy patterns and classify successional stages.

Mandatory requirements: Ph.D. in Remote Sensing, Forest Resources, Geography, or related fields. Experience in processing and analyzing LiDAR data using open-source scientific programming languages (R or Python).

Desirable requirements: International publications related to the use of LiDAR data in forest applications, as well as experience with deep learning methods, will be considered an advantage.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,570.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
