YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research research in conformity with the research activities of the research group Rhizosphere in the Department Plant Biotechnology and Bioinformatics , this in the field of nodulation and/or arbuscular mycorrhization

  • You will assist in teaching activities at Bachelor’s or Master’s level, amongst others you will contribute to the teaching of Molecular Genetics I (Bachelor Biology), Bachelor project (Bachelor Biochemistry and Biotechnology) and Plant-Biotic Interactions (Master Biochemistry and Biotechnology)

  • You will assist Master’s students in the context of  exercises, excursions and Master’s dissertations

  • You will counsel doctoral students
  • You will contribute to the internal and external services of the department

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree (preferably Doctor of Science: Biochemistry or Doctor of Science: Biochemistry and Biotechnology or Doctor of Science: Biology or Doctor of Bioscience Engineering or in a subject considered relevant by the selection committee)

  • The degree requirement needs to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted

  • You have already conducted research within the field of biotic interactions of plants
  • You have experience with analyzing large datasets such as single nuclei transcriptomics and spatial metabolomics
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher during your doctorate
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated
  • You are able to switch smoothly between research tasks and teaching activities
  • You work flexibly and can switch between assignments without losing sight of the bigger picture or compromising the quality of your work
  • You are fluent in English and you have a good oral and written knowledge of Dutch

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU 

  • We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term
  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply
  • The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term
  • Your appointment will start on 1 May 2026 at the earliest.
