The Chair of Materials Science and Testing of Polymers in the Department of Polymer Engineering and Science has a position for a full-time University Assistant (m/f/d).
Salary Group B1 according to the UNI-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 3.776,10 for 40 hours per week (14x per year), actual classification is according to previous relevant experience.
Date of expected start of employment: May 1, 2026
Term of employment: 1 year, with option to extend for another 3 years after positive evaluation
Hours of employment per week: 40 hours
Responsibilities:
Investigation of damage mechanisms in thermomechanically stressed continuous-fibre-reinforced polymers (composites) under monotonic and cyclic loading, in particular using acoustic emission and thermography. Derivation of service life models for composites. Involvement in departmental administration, teaching, research and third-party funded projects (contract and grant-funded research)
Employment requirements:
A completed master’s degree in plastics engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification in line with the desired requirements.
Desirable additional qualifications:
Understanding of deformation and failure behaviour in continuous-fibre-reinforced polymers (composites)
in-depth knowledge of mechanical testing and design of continuous-fibre-reinforced polymers (composites) under monotonic and cyclic loads
experience in operating mechanical testing systems, particularly servo-hydraulic systems
knowledge of the fatigue analysis of materials and components
background in fracture mechanics characterization of composites
basic knowledge of the analysis of in-situ experimental data in the field of non-destructive testing (digital image correlation, thermography and acoustic emission)
development of algorithm-supported evaluation methods in the investigation of damage processes in polymer matrix composite materials
Willingness and ability to undertake academic work in research, including associated publishing activities, with the opportunity to write a doctoral thesis expressly offered; excellent written and spoken English; a basic knowledge of German.
