Department of Information Systems and Operations Management
Part-time, 30 hours/week
Starting September 01, 2026, and ending after 6 years
You want to conduct research and gain teaching experience? This position opens doors to a career in academia or business. Expect supportive teamwork and exciting research with a focus on machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality.
What to expect
- Research: You will collaborate on ongoing research topics and projects as well as develop new research topics and projects jointly with the team. The focus will be on quantitative, design-oriented research in areas such as machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality. Expect intensive, collaborative, and potentially interdisciplinary efforts to develop, write, and publish well-rounded research that substantially advances the field.
- Teaching and Supervision: You will plan, create, and teach courses. Expect to advise students, co-supervise theses and exams, answer student questions, and give feedback.
- Writing a dissertation: You will be investigating your research topic and spending a third of your working hours on writing your dissertation.
- Organizational and administrative support: Expect working collaboratively on general tasks, especially related to the set-up of the team as well as research and teaching activities.
- Collaboration in a newly forming team: You will be part of a newly forming team and have the opportunity of close collaboration, supportive teamwork, and intensive mentoring. Expect a supervisor that is highly motivated to help you succeed.
- International conferences: You will have the opportunity to participate in leading conferences (e.g., ICIS, ECIS).
- Building up a personal network: You will build up your own network for the future, facilitating a career in either academia or business.
What you have to offer
- Academic degree: You have completed a diploma/master’s degree in one of the following subject areas that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU: Information Systems / Business Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence (or comparable). A (very) good degree is an advantage.
- Skills: You have knowledge of OR a deep interest to learn new skills in the research areas of machine learning-based information systems, big data analytics, sociotechnical criteria of AI, and data quality.
- Language skills: You are able to express yourself very well in both spoken and written English. Strong language skills in German are a substantial advantage.
- Motivation and personal characteristics: You are highly motivated for both research and teaching and have the ambition to produce strong results. Teamwork is highly important to you. You are righteous, curious, thorough, and show initiative.
- Programming / data analysis skills: You are interested in programming and have (initial) experience in conducting data analysis with code. Skills in Python and at least with the foundational libraries (e.g., pandas, sklearn, numpy etc.) are an advantage.
- Experience in research and teaching: If you already have experience in research and teaching (e.g., by working as a teaching and research assistant), especially in related areas, that is an advantage.
- Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €2,832.08 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on job-related prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
