The toughest part about studying was not only going through family struggles, but also the disadvantage I have with my hearing. Receiving a scholarship has changed my life. It's helped improve my mental health, knowing that I have support from Monash to study regardless of my hearing. It's also helped me become financially independent with the costs of my studies, and helped me stay on track towards my career goals.
Am I eligible?
You must meet the following criteria:
- be currently enrolled in a research masters or doctoral program as an internal/on-campus student at one of Monash University’s Australian campuses;
- be registered with the Disability Liaison Unit or have appropriate medical documentation;
- hold a MGS, RTP Stipend, MDS or similar award that supports your living costs, as this is a supplementary top up scholarship only; and
- have a disability or long-term medical condition that has resulted in extra expenses during your Graduate Research studies.
Part-time students are also eligible to apply if they are not working full-time.
This scholarship is also available to students undertaking Joint Research Awards when Monash University is the home institution.
Benefits
Up to $6,000.
The award may be paid as a fortnightly stipend (for the academic year only) or in a lump sum if the award is made for the purchase of equipment.
Selection criteria
Selection of the successful applicant will be based on the needs and academic performance of applicants. Selection will be undertaken by the Graduate Research Committee (GRC) Steering Committee. Applicants should note that the committee will determine the amount awarded and that their decision is final.
How to apply
Different scholarships may have varying application requirements, so it's important to carefully review the details and ensure your application is submitted by the specified deadline.
Generally, there is one round per year, closing on 31 March. If the number of available awards are not offered, there may be a second round. Note: students can only receive one award per year.
